letter to my aunt

I don't know how we are going to do this or what the trip is ultimately going to become
but I think it is worth taking a year off from performing to help make a difference in the future of our planet.
Global warming aside, there are so many environmental problems that ARE a direct result of human actions...
Pollution is very real, rising rates of asthma are very real,
groundwater loaded with carcinogenic fertilizers and pesticides is very real,
dying coral reefs, deserts where there weren't any,
permanent scarring of the natural landscape through mining,
soil erosion due to overfarming,
depletion of natural resources like oil and coal - very real, too.
Rainforests disappearing along with hundreds of species of animals and
possibly hundreds of undiscovered cures for disease...all this is happening everyday
and we are contributing to it in ways that people aren't even aware of.

I worry so much about the damage we are doing to our planet and to ourselves by polluting so heavily. I only hope that we can encourage people that the little things we do in our personal lives can and will make a difference in the futures of our children and grandchildren.
I hope we can be the generation that starts really turning things around so that we leave a legacy that shows we cared.
